Tragic news has emerged regarding a devastating crash in Largo back in May. University of Miami linebacker Adarius Hayes, just 20 years old, has been charged in connection with the incident that claimed the lives of three people and left another critically injured.
Charges Filed After Deadly Collision
Hayes surrendered to authorities on Friday and is now facing serious charges, including three counts of vehicular homicide and one count of reckless driving with serious injury. The incident occurred on May 10th, when Hayes was allegedly driving a Dodge Durango at speeds reaching nearly 80 miles per hour in a 40 mph zone.
According to Largo Police Chief Mike Loux, Hayes made a dangerous maneuver, weaving through traffic and crossing multiple lanes. He is accused of colliding with a Kia Soul that was making a legal turn. The impact was catastrophic.
Victims Identified, Investigation Ongoing
The victims of the crash have been identified as 78-year-old Gail Price, 10-year-old Jabari Solomon, and 4-year-old Charlie Solomon Rivera. All three tragically passed away at the scene. Herbert Rivera, the father of the two children, survived the crash but sustained serious injuries. Chief Loux emphasized the gravity of the charges, stating, ‘You have the death of three innocent people that were just driving, traveling on the roadways.’
Evidence, including search warrants, surveillance footage, and the vehicle’s data recorder, helped investigators confirm the high speeds involved. Records indicate Hayes has a history of traffic violations, including speeding and careless driving. He was booked into the Pinellas County Jail and has since been released on a $350,000 bond. The investigation into the incident is continuing.
