  • India Shawn: Rewriting the Rules of R&B

India Shawn is an artist who truly believes in intention. As a storyteller and a sonic risk-taker in the R&B space, she approaches every aspect of her artistry with purpose. Tracing her musical journey, Shawn reveals that her extensive catalog is like chapters in a novel, each song a vivid reflection of her lived experiences.

    From ‘Origin’ to New Beginnings

Shawn recalls the genesis of ‘Be Myself,’ a pivotal track from her debut album, ‘Origin.’ The song came to her spontaneously one night, a moment of pure inspiration she felt compelled to capture immediately. “It just came through the water,” she reflects, describing the urgency to write it down before the feeling faded. This track became a personal mantra, still resonating with her today.

Her sound has continued to evolve, expanding her artistic orbit. Shawn identifies ‘Floating Away,’ from her collaborative EP ‘Outer Limits’ with James Fauntleroy, as a key entry point for new fans. A significant moment in her career was having her song ‘I’m Alive’ featured on Solange’s ‘Saint Heron’ compilation, a collective she describes with laughter as ‘alternative R&B royalty.’

    Introducing ‘Subject To Change’

Now, India Shawn is preparing to release new music that promises to refresh the R&B landscape. Her latest single, ‘Rain On Me,’ serves as the lead track from her upcoming EP, ‘Subject To Change.’ The accompanying visualizer offers a compelling glimpse into the transformation she’s been perfecting behind the scenes.

The EP, ‘Subject To Change,’ is set for release on May 1 via Vanta Music and is executive produced by the label’s co-founder, D’Mile. This project is poised to showcase Shawn’s continued growth and artistic vision.

    The Evolution of an Artist

From the raw inspiration of ‘Be Myself’ to the curated sounds of her upcoming EP, India Shawn’s career is a testament to intentional artistry. She continues to push boundaries and redefine what it means to be an R&B storyteller in today’s music industry.
