Kid Cudi, known for his prolific output and genre-bending style, has just released his 11th studio album, ‘Free,’ which explores pop-punk and alternative sounds. However, fans hoping for a quick follow-up might be disappointed, as Cudi has announced he’ll be taking an extended break from releasing music.
A New Chapter: Independence and New Ventures
In a series of tweets, the Cleveland native expressed his gratitude for the support of ‘Free,’ noting it was his last album with a major label. He’s now looking forward to a new chapter as an independent artist. “Free was my last album on a major label (which is part of the reason I called the album Free) and now I’m lookin forward to a new chapter and being independent,” he shared.
Cudi also teased an upcoming short film he directed for his song ‘Mr Miracle,’ set to drop in the coming weeks, expressing his pride in the album’s reception and thanking his fans for their continued support. “So many people hit me and my friends about how much they loved it. And this last 2 weeks has been really special for me. When u take chances and see people feel u and take the ride w u, it’s a beautiful thing.”
Focusing on Directing, Acting, and Art
The reason for the hiatus? Kid Cudi wants to revisit his other creative passions. “I think ima officially take a step back for a while from droppin albums and focus on directing, more acting, painting and fashion for sure,” he announced. He assured fans that while it might be a few years before his next album, the wait will be worthwhile.
This break comes after a busy period for the multi-talented artist. In addition to releasing ‘Free’ on August 22, he also published his memoir, ‘Cudi: The Memoir,’ on August 5. The book details his life journey, including his struggles with depression, addiction, and isolation, culminating in his current state of happiness.
A Promise of Future Creativity
Cudi’s decision to step back from music production signals a commitment to exploring different facets of his artistry. His fans, accustomed to his unique contributions to hip-hop, will likely be eager to see what he creates in the realms of film, visual arts, and fashion.
While the exact timeline for his musical return remains uncertain, Kid Cudi’s promise that his next album “won’t be boring” offers a compelling reason to anticipate his next move. His dedication to artistic growth and exploration is a testament to his enduring appeal.
