  • Patrick Ta Accused of Copying Black Artist’s Blush Technique

In the vibrant world of beauty, innovation is key. But what happens when a groundbreaking technique, popularized by a Black artist, is allegedly copied and trademarked by a major brand? That’s the controversy currently surrounding makeup artist Ngozi Edeme, known online as Painted By Esther, and Patrick Ta Beauty.

    The ‘Melted Blush’ Controversy

Ngozi Edeme gained significant traction last year for her signature ‘Melted Blush’ technique, which creates a flawless, vibrant blush finish on deep skin tones. Her artistry has graced the faces of stars like Tyla, Saweetie, and Kelly Rowland, and she’s even toured with music icons like Monica and Brandy. Her unique approach, particularly her use of the powder puff for a specific transition blush effect and her distinctive phrase ‘back of your palm,’ has become synonymous with her brand.

However, fans were stunned when Patrick Ta Beauty launched its ‘Transitional Blush’ collection, featuring a lineup seemingly designed to replicate Edeme’s signature look. Reports suggest the brand even attempted to trademark the very phrase that defines the technique. Edeme expressed her apprehension about speaking out, fearing the ‘angry Black woman’ trope, but ultimately decided to address the situation.

    A Pattern of Concern?

This isn’t the first time Patrick Ta Beauty has faced scrutiny regarding Black creators. In late 2024, influencer Avonna Sunshine accused the brand of failing to compensate Black creators for marketing work, leading to public apologies and a review of their payment processes. This history has fueled concerns that the current situation with Edeme might be part of a larger pattern.

Edeme noted that her interactions with Patrick Ta have been ‘weird,’ detailing unsettling encounters. The timing of Ta’s promotional content mirroring her specific techniques and even linguistic quirks, like using ‘back of your palm,’ has raised eyebrows.

Industry Reactions and Calls for Recognition

While Patrick Ta eventually acknowledged Edeme, stating, ‘I do not own this look,’ and tagging her, the situation highlights a persistent issue: Black creatives often struggle for due recognition and fair treatment in industries like beauty. Edeme, while humble and acknowledging industry pioneers, has undeniably made her technique a staple, particularly for Black women.

Beauty influencer Jackie Aina weighed in on the controversy, noting her indifference to Ta’s liquid blush but expressing reservations about the duo. When pressed by followers to comment on the Edeme situation, Aina stated she wouldn’t insert herself but affirmed that consumers have the right to choose whether or not to support the brand.

Even in 2025, we’re seeing our creativity and ideas being ‘reinvented’ or straight-up stolen, but we aren’t stopping. — Ngozi Edeme (Painted By Esther)

Edeme remains committed to her craft and celebrating Black culture within the beauty space, declaring, ‘I live and breathe this craft every single day—and I’m not going anywhere.’ The advocacy from fans underscores a growing demand for accountability and respect for Black artists’ contributions.

  • Doechii Addresses ‘Industry Plant’ Rumors with SZA

Doechii is closing out 2025 with a powerful statement. The rising artist surprised fans today, December 30th, by dropping a brand new song and music video featuring the incredible SZA, titled ‘girl, get up.’ More than just a new track, it’s a direct response to the persistent ‘industry plant’ rumors that have followed her career.

Shutting Down Rumors with Fierce Lyrics

On ‘girl, get up,’ Doechii doesn’t hold back, addressing the speculation head-on with sharp lyrics. ‘All that industry plant sh*t whack / I see it on the blogs, I see you in the chats / You suck every rap n***a d*ck from the back / But what’s the agenda when the it girl Black?’ she raps, firmly pushing back against the narrative that her success isn’t earned.

This isn’t the first time Doechii has tackled these allegations. She previously addressed them during her acceptance speech for Woman Of The Year at the Billboard Women In Music event back in March. At the time, she attributed her achievements to divine intervention, hard work, and the support of her dedicated team.

    Success as Confirmation of Impact

In a previous interview with The Cut, Doechii even suggested that these ‘conspiracies’ surrounding her career could be seen as a positive sign. She believes such suspicions often arise when an artist’s journey isn’t widely known, indicating they’re making a significant impact. ‘Once you get any conspiracies around your career… That’s just confirmation that I’m going somewhere, and I’m doing something right,’ she explained.

She further elaborated that when people lack familiarity with an artist’s history, suspicion can arise. However, Doechii maintains an emotional detachment from these rumors, understanding their origins. Her focus remains on her music and her journey, crediting ‘God’ and ‘brilliant, savvy women’ on her team rather than any supposed ‘machine’ or ‘agenda.’

    A Powerful Collaboration

The collaboration with SZA, a powerhouse in her own right, lends even more credibility to Doechii’s message. ‘girl, get up’ is not just a song; it’s an anthem of self-affirmation and a clear declaration that Doechii’s rise is a result of her talent, resilience, and unwavering dedication.

What do you think of Doechii’s new song ‘girl, get up’ and her response to industry plant rumors? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

This year’s event promises performances, essential giveaways, and a whole lot of holiday cheer for families in need.

The festivities are scheduled to kick off on Thursday, December 18th, and run through the 19th. The first day is packed with performances from TDE’s incredible roster, headlined by none other than SZA and the dynamic Doechii.

More Than Just Music: A Day of Giving Back

Friday, December 19th, is dedicated to the giveback portion of the event. TDE will be distributing toys to children, alongside raffles, youth sports and activities, barber services, holiday photo opportunities, a magical “snow experience,” and even on-site job availability. A Stellar Year for TDE Artists

This holiday event caps off an outstanding year for TDE artists, especially SZA. Her album ‘SOS’ and its deluxe version, ‘LANA,’ have earned her a remarkable five Grammy nominations for the upcoming awards. The track, titled “Run It Back!!” and slated for the album *Cabin In The Sky*, features Nas dropping bars that celebrate the artists currently dominating the charts. HipHopNMore got an early listen, and Nas can be heard rapping, “Since the 80s, 90s and 00s? This sentiment underscores the deep respect Nas holds for artists who push the boundaries of the genre and maintain a high level of artistry. It’s clear that Nas sees a kindred spirit in Lamar’s dedication to the craft.
