The dust has settled for Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker. After 11 years of marriage, the couple has officially finalized their divorce and custody agreement, reportedly parting ways amicably. Burruss recently sat down with ‘The Breakfast Club’ to shed light on the settlement, address misconceptions, and clarify the narrative surrounding their split.
Joint Custody and Clear Communication
Contrary to some reports, Burruss emphasized that she and Tucker will share joint physical and legal custody of their two children, 6-year-old daughter Blaze and 10-year-old son Ace. While specific visitation details remain sealed, the agreement mandates open communication and collaboration on all major decisions concerning their children’s health, education, and well-being. In cases of disagreement on non-emergency healthcare or education, Burruss will have the final say, while Tucker holds authority over decisions regarding new extracurricular activities.
During her interview on March 26th, Burruss directly addressed the conflicting information, stating, ‘Whenever anything is open, it leaves it to people’s interpretation, then you got bloggers who really want to be the first to report a story… We are joint.’ The couple also agreed to require written consent from each other before involving their children in any public-facing activities, including media projects, brand partnerships, or commercial opportunities.
The $426K Settlement: Balancing Assets
While neither parent will pay child or spousal support, Burruss is providing a one-time lump sum payment of $426,000 to Tucker. This payment, according to TMZ, is intended to balance the division of assets, particularly real estate. Burruss explained that she retained more properties in the settlement, and the payment ensures they both end up with equal equity.
‘Basically, it’s just so we just have to end up with equal equity,’ Burruss clarified to Loren LoRosa on ‘The Breakfast Club.’ ‘I ended up with one more. I just had to pay the difference of, so we are still equal in what we got.’ This ensures a fair distribution, despite the differing property holdings.
Transparency and Clarity in the Process
Burruss also reflected on Tucker’s decision not to seal the divorce proceedings. Initially confused by the request, she now understands his desire for clarity. ‘He wanted it to be clear, he wasn’t trying to take me for everything I had, obviously that is the narrative,’ she shared, referencing potential assumptions about him fighting a prenup. ‘I think overall, I guess at the end of the day, I guess he just felt like he wanted it to be clear.’
The finalized agreement also addresses the division of other assets, including credit card reward points and vehicles. Burruss will retain several cars, while Tucker will keep others. They have also agreed to sell a jointly owned food truck. Notably, Tucker is required to vacate Burruss’ guest home within 15 days of the parenting agreement being signed, following Burruss’ earlier claim that he had been residing there without paying rent during the divorce proceedings.
