It seems singer Tyrese Gibson is feeling the sting of rejection, and he’s not holding back about it. He recently shared on social media that he poured his heart into creating two custom songs specifically for R&B legend Mary J. Blige, only for her to reportedly decline being featured on both.
A ‘Tailor-Made’ Disappointment
During an Instagram livestream, Tyrese explained how he meticulously crafted a song, perfecting it for Mary J. Blige’s unique voice and style. He felt it was the perfect fit for her. However, he claims she passed on the opportunity. Not one to give up easily, Tyrese went back to the studio and created a second song, again with MJB in mind.
Unfortunately, the second attempt also resulted in a rejection. Tyrese admitted he’s feeling “really hurt” by the situation, stating, “I feel a way about it. I’m hurt, I’m hurt, I’m really hurt. I can’t lie.”
Expressing Love and Disappointment
Tyrese emphasized that his hurt wasn’t about Mary J. Blige not having a choice, acknowledging her legendary status and calling her his “sister.” Instead, he was deeply affected by the rejection itself, likening his creative process to that of a “mad scientist” who customizes his work. He even sent a direct message to Mary, expressing his love and admiration while also conveying his disappointment.
Despite the setback, Tyrese maintained that their long-standing relationship and “equity over all these years” are important to him. It’s clear that while he respects her decision, the experience has left him feeling genuinely disappointed.
