It looks like rapper Future might be in some legal hot water. His ex-girlfriend, Brittni Mealy, is reportedly demanding that he face jail time for allegedly failing to comply with a court order. The core of the issue? A $500,000 life insurance policy that Future was mandated to obtain for their son, Prince, with Mealy named as the trustee.
Alleged Non-Compliance with Court Order
According to court documents obtained by Complex, Mealy’s petition states that over eighteen months have passed since the compliance deadline for the life insurance policy. Despite multiple written requests over several months, she claims Future has “failed and refused to comply.” Mealy is asking the court to hold Future in contempt until he secures the policy, which is intended to protect their son’s financial future.
This isn’t the first time Future and Mealy have made headlines regarding their co-parenting situation. Back in 2021, Mealy publicly accused Future of sending inappropriate text messages to their son, Prince, regarding school clothes. She took to Instagram at the time, sharing her frustrations and hinting at posting recordings if necessary.
Past Disputes Over Child Support and Visitation
Around the same period, Mealy also filed a lawsuit seeking increased child support, citing Future’s growing income. A judge ruled in her favor in 2023, revealing that the rapper was earning approximately $30,000 monthly. Future had been paying $3,000 per month for Prince, which he argued was sufficient, but Mealy also raised concerns about his visitation time, citing his demanding schedule as a reason for limited contact.
Future is a father to seven children in total. Besides Prince, his other children include Jakobi, Future Zahir, Hendrix, Kash, Londyn, and Paris. This latest legal demand highlights the ongoing complexities that can arise in high-profile co-parenting situations, especially when court orders are involved.
