  • Pras Ordered to Pay $64 Million Over Charges

The legal troubles for Fugees co-founder Pras Michel continue to mount. A federal judge has ordered the rapper to pay a staggering $64 million to the government, stemming from charges related to foreign lobbying and conspiracy. This hefty sum adds to the already serious legal and personal challenges Michel is facing.

    The Ruling and the Charges

Federal Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly ruled that Pras “obtained proceeds in the amount of at least $64,923,226 from his offense.” These charges include failing to register as an agent of China, conspiracy, and witness tampering. Pras was found guilty on 10 criminal counts back in April 2023.

The allegations center on his alleged involvement in helping Malaysian financier Jho Low gain political access to former Presidents Barack Obama and Donald Trump. Furthermore, Michel is accused of participating in schemes to illegally fund parts of their presidential campaigns. These actions have led to a severe financial penalty and the threat of significant prison time.

    Prison Time and Health Concerns

Beyond the financial penalties, Pras is also facing a potential 10-year prison sentence. His sentencing, initially scheduled for August, was postponed due to an emergency surgery for colon cancer. This health crisis has significantly impacted the legal proceedings.

His spokesperson, Erica Dumas, expressed frustration over the financial demands, noting, “They already took 100 [million] from him and now they want another 64 [million].” The sentencing date was pushed to October, but that also fell through, with the current expectation being that Pras will learn his fate in December. His legal team has reportedly requested a sentence of just three years, citing his medical condition and cooperation with authorities.

    Potential Pardon and Legal Strategy

There were also rumors in January that Donald Trump might consider pardoning the 53-year-old artist. However, this news has since gone quiet. The defense has been attempting to leverage Pras’s medical issues as a factor in potentially shortening his sentence, highlighting the complex interplay between his health, legal battles, and public image.

The situation remains fluid as Pras awaits his final sentencing. The combination of a massive financial penalty, the threat of imprisonment, and ongoing health concerns paints a grim picture for the Fugees member.

  • Judge Orders Halle Bailey & DDG to Keep Son Offline

In the midst of their ongoing custody battle, singer Halle Bailey and rapper DDG have been issued a court order prohibiting them from posting any content related to their 19-month-old son, Halo, on social media or the internet. This decision aims to protect the child’s privacy during a contentious period for the former couple.

    Protecting Halo’s Privacy

The court order, filed by the family division of the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles, mandates that neither Bailey nor DDG can share “photographs, images and/or information regarding the minor child” online. Furthermore, they are prohibited from allowing anyone in their immediate circles to post such content. This ruling comes after a summer marked by conflict between the two parents.

The court also addressed visitation arrangements, establishing a monitored schedule for DDG to spend time with Halo. These visits are contingent on “peaceful contact” with Bailey and will occur every Wednesday and Saturday from 9 am to 6 pm, and every other Sunday during the same hours. A professional monitor will oversee these interactions, with a primary focus on ensuring compliance with the social media posting restrictions.

    A Contentious Custody Battle

This latest ruling follows a series of disputes between Bailey and DDG. In June, DDG requested an emergency hearing to prevent Bailey from taking Halo to Italy during her film shoot, accusing her of domestic abuse and posing an “imminent emotional and psychological risk to the minor child” due to postpartum depression. However, the judge denied his request, allowing Halo to travel.

Bailey had previously sought and was granted a restraining order against DDG in May, presenting evidence of alleged physical abuse. She also claimed that DDG frequently spreads false information to his millions of fans, inciting online harassment against her. Bailey stated in her declaration that DDG falsely alleges she is withholding their son and is involved with other men, leading to threats and hate directed at her online. She asserted that his claims are untrue and that he refuses a set visitation schedule she proposed.

While fans will miss seeing Halo’s adorable moments online, this court-ordered pause on social media sharing is seen as a potentially positive step towards more stable co-parenting for Bailey and DDG.
