Kanye West, often a polarizing figure in the music industry, is facing new challenges in securing performance venues. Despite his efforts to move past recent controversies, many European countries have restricted his ability to perform or even enter. However, producers of a planned concert in Prague are pushing back against calls to cancel the show, emphasizing freedom of expression.
Freedom of Expression in Prague
HUGO Productions, the company behind the Prague concert, and the Chuchle Arena racecourse venue are standing firm. They are relying on Prague’s political climate, which champions freedom of expression, to ensure the show proceeds. Zuzana Rambova, director of the Chuchle Arena racecourse, stated, ‘We are not the ones who should evaluate whether the artist performs or not. We are certainly not in the era of socialism, where we somehow persecute artists.’
This stance directly addresses critics who have been trying to get the concert shut down. The producers believe that artists should not be ‘persecuted’ for their past actions or statements, especially when those actions may have stemmed from mental health struggles.
Arguments for Allowing the Performance
Hugo Varga, the entrepreneur behind HUGO Productions, argued that West experienced mental health challenges during the time he made offensive public statements. Varga emphasized that West is ‘not an extremist,’ suggesting that his past actions should be viewed through the lens of his well-documented struggles. Varga himself had previously organized the Rubikon Festival in 2025, which was canceled after announcing West as a performer.
The Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis’s government has also been vocal about the importance of free speech. Justice Minister Jeronym Tejc added, ‘Let everyone defend their opinion.’ While there is opposition, Prague is emerging as a potential venue willing to host West, a stark contrast to other European locations.

As this situation develops, Prague appears to be one of the few places where Kanye West might still be welcomed to perform. We’ll continue to monitor any further updates on this evolving story.
