  • Cardi B Responds to Pregnancy Rumors

Cardi B is no stranger to addressing rumors head-on, and her latest response to speculation about a potential pregnancy is no different. While fans eagerly await her sophomore album, “Am I The Drama?”, set to release in September, some have been buzzing about a possible baby bump spotted in promo videos.

Addressing Rumors with a Mix of Defiance and Teasing

During an Instagram Live session on August 21st, Cardi B directly addressed a fan who commented on her breathlessness, suggesting pregnancy. “‘Look thirty weeks pregnant’? No, you stupid b**ch,” Cardi retorted. “I’m just f**king out of breath ’cause I have asthma… Stop f**king being f**king funny in this b**ch before you get motherf**king blocked, b**ch. Stupid a** comment, don’t put that s**t on me, b**ch.”

However, in true Cardi B fashion, she followed up this seemingly definitive denial with a cryptic tweet later that day: “But AM I?…” accompanied by a playful GIF of Tokyo Toni raising her eyebrows. This teasing message came shortly after she reposted a video of herself rapping her latest single, “Imaginary Playerz,” where fans claimed to see a small, round belly under her black bodysuit.

Focus on Music and Defiance Against Haters

Given Cardi B’s history of denying pregnancies that later proved true, fans remain divided on what her latest response truly signifies. Regardless of the pregnancy speculation, many fans are primarily focused on the release of her album and a potential tour. Comments like “Chile.. Just make sure you go on TOUR, pregnant & all idgaf😂♥️” and “Belcalis please. I need just one tour… just one!!! And I’ll be front row😩😩” flooded her social media.

Cardi also used her platform to address detractors who criticize her music and encourage her to quit. She spoke about people creating “narratives” about her and “grown men that are practically betting for me to lose.” Refuting claims that she has children to avoid her musical responsibilities, Cardi emphasized her deep passion for music, stating, “I love making music. I go to the studio almost every single day. I sleep in the studio because I love to make music.” She firmly declared that her career will only end with her death, not due to outside opinions.

  • Trump Calls D.C. ‘Hellhole’ Amid Crackdown

President Donald Trump’s recent comments describing Washington D.C. neighborhoods as “slums” and a “hellhole” have drawn sharp criticism from residents and leaders, who argue the language reveals a bias against the city’s majority Black population. These remarks come amidst a controversial 30-day federal crime crackdown, which has seen hundreds of federal agents and National Guard soldiers deployed throughout the capital.

    Rhetoric Sparks Outrage and Concern

Despite local police data indicating a 30-year low in crime rates prior to Trump’s intervention, the President declared a “situation of complete and total lawlessness” and vowed to “get rid of the slums.” When pressed for clarification, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated Trump was referring to “the most dangerous communities… where, unfortunately, violence has ravaged these communities.” Trump himself told reporters that D.C. was a “hellhole” before his crackdown, asserting that “now it’s safe” and visitors “are not going to go home in a body bag.”

Public safety advocate Gregory Jackson, a resident of Ward 8, called Trump’s descriptions “offensive, dangerous, and discriminatory,” emphasizing that D.C. neighborhoods are diverse communities, not “slums.” He highlighted the presence of young families, military personnel, and community-centric individuals in his neighborhood, finding the broad generalizations disrespectful. Courtney Snowden, a former D.C. deputy mayor and sixth-generation Washingtonian, echoed these sentiments, calling the President’s comments “appalling” and stressing that residents are committed citizens contributing to the city’s success.

Questioning the Motives Behind the Crackdown

Critics question the administration’s stated concerns about crime and the safety of D.C. residents, suggesting the crackdown is a pretext for a broader power grab. Jamal Holtz, president of the D.C. Young Democrats, pointed out that D.C. isn’t even among the top 10 most dangerous cities nationally. Markus Batchelor, political director at People For the American Way and a D.C. native, warned that using false pretenses to take over local matters and law enforcement in D.C. could be a precursor to similar actions in other cities across the nation.

Critics argue that instead of collaborating with D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and local officials to build on existing progress in reducing crime, the Trump administration has opted for a heavy-handed, tough-on-crime approach. This strategy, they contend, has proven ineffective without complementary community intervention programs and investments, which the Trump administration has reportedly cut, including a $20 million security grant for D.C. and funding for community violence intervention strategies previously supported by the Biden administration.

The militarization of D.C. streets, with armed National Guard troops and federal officers, is also raising concerns about the psychological impact on residents, particularly Black youth. Jackson noted that this presence reinforces negative stereotypes, making Black individuals feel like suspects rather than citizens. “Now you could just be walking home from school and be interrogated. Some folks are sitting on their porch and have officers running up on them,” he told theGrio, emphasizing how this treatment reinforces the perception that Black people are viewed as threats.

  • Ciara Defends Russell Wilson Against ‘Simp’ Label

Ciara is setting the record straight and shutting down any negativity surrounding her marriage to NFL quarterback Russell Wilson. During a recent interview on “The Breakfast Club,” the singer addressed the public’s perception of her husband, particularly the label of “simp” that some spectators have attached to him.

    Unbothered by Outside Opinions

When asked by Charlamagne Tha God about the criticism, Ciara remained unfazed. “I don’t even have to reply to that,” she stated confidently. “I know what I know, and that’s all that matters.” She went on to praise Wilson, calling him “the most amazing human being you can know” and “the smartest, most intelligent Black man that I have ever known.” Ciara emphasized the authenticity of their relationship, noting that what people see publicly is genuinely who he is.

Charlamagne pressed further, mentioning conversations on the show about why Wilson is often called a “simp.” Ciara reiterated that external opinions hold no weight in their relationship, questioning the perspective of those making the judgments. “Have you ever loved someone right? Have you ever been loved right?” she asked rhetorically, suggesting that critics may speak from a place of not understanding true love or healthy relationships.

    Focusing on Love and Authenticity

Instead of getting defensive or upset about the negative attention, Ciara prefers to respond with grace, saying, “God bless them.” She believes everyone is entitled to their opinion but stressed that she doesn’t need to live her life to prove anything to anyone. “I think sometimes, too, people just have a perspective because of the way they see life,” she added, suggesting that critics’ views are often a reflection of their own experiences rather than an objective truth about her relationship.

Ultimately, Ciara’s message is one of self-assurance and prioritizing her own happiness. Her unwavering support for Russell Wilson and her dismissal of outside judgment highlight the strength and authenticity of their bond.

  • Apollonia Sues Prince’s Estate Over Stage Name

It seems the legacy of the Purple One is facing a new legal challenge, this time from a familiar face. Singer and actress Patricia Kotero, famously known as Apollonia, has filed a lawsuit against Prince’s estate. The core of the dispute? The estate’s alleged attempt to trademark the very stage name that Prince himself bestowed upon her.

    A Name Given, Now Contested

Filed on August 19th in Los Angeles, Kotero’s complaint argues that Prince encouraged her to adopt the name ‘Apollonia’ during their collaboration in the 1980s. For over four decades, she has performed, acted, and built her brand under this iconic moniker, with no objections raised by Prince or anyone associated with him during his lifetime. She asserts that Prince himself anointed her with the name.

The lawsuit claims the estate’s recent move to trademark ‘Apollonia’ for clothing and entertainment, while simultaneously trying to cancel her existing registrations, is an effort to rewrite history and control her professional identity. As Kotero stated in her complaint, “There is only one Apollonia,” emphasizing her ownership and the source of goods and services provided under the name.

    Prince’s Estate Responds

Apollonia’s connection to Prince is undeniable. She rose to fame as his leading lady in the legendary film ‘Purple Rain’ and later fronted the group Apollonia 6. She has consistently used the name across her various ventures in acting, music, and business. The estate’s actions, according to Kotero, could prevent her from using the name the world knows her by.

Prince’s estate has publicly responded to the lawsuit, dismissing it as “frivolous” and unwarranted. A statement indicated they never told her to stop using her adopted name or objected to her business activities. In fact, they claim they have “repeatedly offered her opportunities to perform at Paisley Park using this professional name.”

    Seeking a Judicial Declaration

Kotero’s suit frames the situation as a “real, immediate, and justiciable controversy.” She is seeking a judicial declaration that confirms her ownership of the trademark, arguing that she is the one who has embodied the character and kept the name alive through the years. This legal battle could determine who truly controls the legacy of the name ‘Apollonia’.

  • SPILL Calls Out Ad Agency for Brand Misappropriation

The creators of the popular Black-owned social media platform SPILL are speaking out against global advertising agency 72andSunny, accusing them of “attempted theft” and “cultural misappropriation.” The controversy erupted when 72andSunny launched a new European news platform called SPIL*, which SPILL’s team claims bears striking similarities in name, branding, and target audience.

    Striking Similarities Raise Red Flags

SPILL Chief Growth Officer Kenya T. Parham brought the issue to light on LinkedIn on August 21st, after 72andSunny announced SPIL* as a platform “built from scratch” by their Amsterdam team. The post, which was quickly deleted due to significant backlash in the comments, advertised SPIL* as a Gen Z news platform offering “diverse perspectives.” Parham highlighted the striking resemblance, noting that SPILL launched in 2023 and quickly rose to become the number one app in the Apple App Store’s social section – a first for a Black-owned app.

Parham pointed out that 72andSunny’s deleted post claimed they built SPIL* “from scratch,” despite SPILL’s established presence and recognition, including features in major outlets like Fast Company, Mashable, TechCrunch, and CNN, as well as being named Apple’s App of the Day. “It’s hard to believe a global ad agency wouldn’t have known about SPILL before launching a nearly identical platform name, just swapping the second ‘L’ for an asterisk,” Parham stated.

A Stand for Representation and Credit

Parham further detailed the alleged replication of SPILL’s branding on SPIL*’s website, citing similarities in font style, bright colors on a black background, and even animated captions. “What you’re seeing now is a screen recording of the website that 72 and Sunny put up for their cultural misappropriation of our platform,” she explained. “A simple search on the internet would have shown you that not only does the spill app already exist, but we are already servicing diverse communities.”

The situation underscores SPILL’s core mission: to create safe online spaces for Black, brown, and queer creators and to ensure they receive proper credit for their trends and innovations. “We started building Spill in 2023 because we were tired of seeing Black, brown, and queer creators having their trends co-opted and stolen without proper credit,” Parham said.

In a sarcastic closing, Parham thanked 72andSunny for inadvertently inspiring SPILL’s creators to consider launching their own ad agency, jokingly named “69andShady.” The incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by Black-owned businesses in protecting their intellectual property and brand identity in a competitive market.

  • Man Starts Fire at Milan Airport

Travel plans can sometimes take unexpected, chaotic turns, and a recent incident at Milan Malpensa Airport is a prime example. On August 20th, a 28-year-old man reportedly caused significant mayhem in Terminal 1 by starting a gasoline fire and wielding a hammer, leading to injuries and the temporary closure of a portion of the check-in area.

    A ‘Madman’s’ Rampage at Malpensa

According to the Lombardy Airports Association, the incident occurred in the check-in area of Terminal 1. The man, described as a “madman,” allegedly doused a check-in counter with gasoline before setting it ablaze. Bystander footage captured the alarming scene, showing flames engulfing part of the terminal. The situation escalated further when, moments after the fire started, another individual reportedly struck the suspect with a fire extinguisher, and others rushed to help subdue him.

Adding to the bizarre nature of the event, reports indicate the man had escaped from an emergency room where he had been hospitalized just the day before. He had allegedly been taken to the hospital after smashing a store window with a hammer. Authorities have charged the individual with aggravated damage to public property.

    Damage and Recovery Efforts

The fire caused damage to the airport and resulted in at least one person being harmed. The Lombardy Airports Association provided updates, noting that check-in counters 13 through 19 in Terminal 1 were temporarily affected. However, they expressed hope that counters 14 through 19 would resume operations shortly after safety restoration.

The swift response from emergency services and airport personnel helped bring the situation under control and apprehend the suspect. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictable challenges that can arise in travel hubs.

  • The Great AI Attrition: Why Top AI Talent is Leaving

In today’s rapidly evolving technological landscape, AI efficiency experts are akin to the early internet pioneers of the 1990s. Just as those innovators reshaped communication and workflows, today’s top AI performers are redefining productivity. However, new research from the Upwork Research Institute highlights a concerning trend: these highly effective AI users are twice as likely to quit their jobs, a phenomenon dubbed “The Great AI Attrition.”

The Productivity Paradox: More Output, Same Model

The core issue lies in a growing imbalance. While AI top performers are significantly boosting their productivity—reporting up to a 40% increase—their organizations are often failing to adapt their roles, teams, or work cultures accordingly. Instead of receiving more trust, autonomy, or opportunities for creative problem-solving, these workers are frequently met with increased workloads and the same outdated, linear work models. This disconnect leads to burnout and disengagement, with 88% of high-performing AI users reporting overload and disconnection.

These AI-savvy employees are not simply automating tasks; they are augmenting their work, finding the optimal blend of AI-assisted repetition and human-led creativity. For instance, graphic designers use AI to streamline concept development and routine edits, freeing up time for strategic thinking and storytelling. Upwork data shows AI is used for augmentation 71% of the time, enhancing human capabilities rather than replacing them. Yet, despite these gains, these innovators often feel undervalued and lack visibility into their company’s AI strategy, leading to frustration and a desire to seek opportunities elsewhere.

What Top AI Talent Wants: Trust, Redesign, and Learning

These forward-thinking employees desire leadership that understands how AI fundamentally changes the dynamics of time, attention, and decision-making. They seek workplaces that foster smart collaboration over constant meetings, support creativity with AI tools, and prioritize human connection. To retain this valuable talent, organizations need to move beyond mere AI adoption and focus on integration into the entire work experience.

Strategies for Leaders to Combat Attrition

    1. **Communicate Your AI Strategy:** Share a clear vision for AI integration, even if it’s evolving. Transparent leadership builds trust and belonging, crucial for retaining talent. Regular updates and feedback forums can foster a sense of shared ownership.
    2. **Listen for Early Signs of Disengagement:** Managers should be trained to recognize subtle indicators of AI-related burnout, such as reduced meeting contributions or decreased collaboration. Utilizing pulse surveys, stay interviews, and regular check-ins can help identify and address issues proactively.
    3. **Redesign Roles to Emphasize Innovation:** Instead of assigning more work based on AI-driven efficiency, encourage employees to use reclaimed time for creativity, experimentation, or mentorship. Update job descriptions to reflect the strategic impact of AI-enabled roles.
    4. **Foster a Culture of Learning:** Support employees in developing “learn how to learn” skills, offering coaching, training, and development opportunities. As AI automates more tasks, human-centered guidance becomes increasingly valuable.

By implementing these strategies, leaders can transform the “Great AI Attrition” into an opportunity for reinvention, creating a future-ready workforce that thrives on human-AI collaboration and innovation.

  • Where Was HBO’s ‘Mountainhead’ Filmed?

HBO’s latest original film, “Mountainhead,” directed by Jesse Armstrong of “Succession” fame, immerses viewers in the world of tech billionaires seeking seclusion amidst an AI-driven crisis. The film’s authentic ambiance, set in a lavish and remote mansion, is crucial to its satirical portrayal of extreme privilege. For those wondering where this opulent setting was brought to life, the answer is a real, breathtaking estate in Park City, Utah.

    A Real-Life Mansion for a Fictional World

The sprawling 21,000-square-foot mansion featured in “Mountainhead” is indeed a real property located in the exclusive Deer Crest enclave of Deer Valley, Utah. This estate, bordering on the fantastical, boasts an array of high-end amenities, including a private ski gondola, a bowling alley, a rock-climbing wall, and an NBA-sized basketball court, all contributing to the film’s depiction of extreme luxury.

Production designer Stephen Carter and the creative team specifically sought out this mansion for its iconic architecture and unsettling beauty, aiming for a feel similar to the remote grandeur of “The Shining’s” Overlook Hotel. The estate’s furnishings and curated artwork were carefully chosen to reinforce the satire of immense wealth and detachment from the outside world. While the mansion itself is real, the cast did not stay on-site during filming, and unfortunately for fans, the private, gated community location means it’s not open to the public or available for rent.

Beyond the Estate: Exploring Utah’s Scenery

While the majority of “Mountainhead” was filmed within the confines of this remarkable Utah estate, one scene was captured at Snowbird Mountain, located outside Salt Lake City. This is where the four main characters, embodying tech billionaires, write their net worths on their chests amidst the icy altitudes, a moment that visually underscores their detachment and the film’s thematic core.

Utah’s dramatic mountains and pristine snowfields provided the ideal backdrop for “Mountainhead,” visually expressing the film’s themes of isolation and the imposing nature of wealth. The estate’s location in Deer Valley offered sweeping views of Jordanelle Reservoir, Bald Mountain, and the Uinta Mountains, further emphasizing the narrative’s focus on the isolated privilege of the tech elite. The area is renowned for its high-end real estate, with the mansion reportedly selling for over $50 million after an initial listing of $65 million.

For travelers visiting Utah, even without the movie’s characters’ budgets, the region offers plenty to explore. Park City provides numerous activities year-round. Visitors can experience winter sports at the Utah Olympic Park, delve into history at the Park City Main Street Historic District or the Park City Museum, or enjoy the scenic beauty of the surrounding mountains and reservoirs.

  • Emory Healthcare Sued Over WARN Act Violations

Emory Healthcare, a prominent academic health system in Georgia, is now the target of a class-action lawsuit filed by former employees. The suit alleges that the company violated the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act when it laid off dozens of employees in its financial services and revenue cycle department in early August 2025.

    Allegations of WARN Act Violations

The lawsuit claims that over 500 full-time workers were terminated without the legally required 60 days’ advance written notice. Instead, employees reportedly received severance agreements that offered payments contingent upon them signing away their rights to back pay claims. The WARN Act mandates that companies provide this notice period during mass layoffs to protect employees’ rights to benefits and back pay.

The lawsuit explicitly states, “Emory’s conduct demonstrates a willful attempt to circumvent WARN Act requirements and deprive employees of their statutory protections.” Paulette Simmons, a former employee and the lead plaintiff, recalled receiving a termination letter dated August 12th, announcing her immediate dismissal. The letter offered a lump-sum payment but required her to agree not to sue, among other conditions.

    Emory Healthcare’s Defense

Emory Healthcare, however, disputes the applicability of the WARN Act, arguing that the layoffs did not meet the threshold for a “mass layoff” under the act’s definition. A spokesperson stated that the layoffs affected only 232 out of its 29,500 employees, representing about 1% of the workforce. They cited the WARN Act’s criteria, which require employment losses to represent at least 33% of the workforce at a single site, excluding part-time employees, neither of which applied in this case.

The company expressed its commitment to supporting the departing employees with resources during their career transition and conveyed gratitude for their contributions. Despite Emory’s defense, Simmons and other affected workers are urging the court to certify them as a class and declare that Emory Healthcare violated the WARN Act, seeking appropriate compensation for all affected employees.
