Imagine a world where financial barriers don’t stand in the way of brilliant minds pursuing their dreams. That’s the vision behind the Truth Awards, and this year, a truly incredible act of generosity brought that vision even closer to reality. Last weekend, the 12th Annual Truth Awards Weekend, a vibrant celebration of Black LGBTQ+ leaders and allies, saw a monumental donation that’s making serious waves.
A Game-Changing Donation for Future Leaders
Better Brothers Los Angeles, in partnership with Sheryl Lee Ralph’s DIVA Foundation, hosted this multi-day event, bringing together a powerful community of creatives, advocates, and changemakers. The highlight? A reported $100,000 contribution to the Better Brothers Los Angeles scholarship program. This isn’t just any donation; insiders suggest it’s one of the largest single gifts the organization has ever received.
While the donor wished to remain anonymous during the event, sources have revealed that the generous benefactor is none other than media mogul Tyler Perry. This significant investment underscores a deep commitment to fostering Black excellence and ensuring educational access for deserving students within the Black LGBTQ+ community.
Celebrating Excellence: Honorees and Emerging Stars
The Truth Awards Weekend wasn’t just about the donation; it was a powerful platform celebrating the achievements of many. The main gala honored influential figures such as Don Lemon, Jenifer Lewis, Carlos King, Flame Monroe, Durand Bernarr, Nneka Onuorah, and Dr. Keith Green. Their contributions continue to shape culture and inspire countless individuals.
Adding to the excitement, the Gilead-sponsored Passing The Torch Awards ceremony shone a spotlight on the next generation of Black LGBTQ+ talent. Emerging leaders like Dewayne Perkins, Jordan E. Cooper, Sydney Colson, Eric Hart Jr., and Willie Green were recognized for their innovative work and leadership.
