  • Family Seeks Answers in Murder of Pregnant Ashanti Allen

The grieving family of Ashanti Allen is demanding answers after the 23-year-old, who was eight months pregnant, was found murdered in a Houston park. Their anguish is compounded by the fact that the alleged assailant, Kevin Faux, 24, had a history of violence against Ashanti and was reportedly released from jail just two months prior to her death.

    Questions Surrounding Faux’s Release

Edward Allen, Ashanti’s father, expressed his frustration and confusion, stating, “This is not his first rodeo, okay, he’s done this before.” He questioned the system, asking, “We need to know what’s going on behind closed doors with our kids. If we only knew what was going on, we would not be standing here talking to you.”

A Pattern of Violence and a Plea Deal

Court records reveal a disturbing pattern: Faux was charged with assault-continuous family violence in September 2025, with accusations of at least two other violent acts against Allen. Despite the severity of these charges, which could have led to a minimum two-year prison sentence as a third-degree felony, Faux accepted a plea deal on February 19. This resulted in the charges being reduced to a Class A misdemeanor, with a sentence of 280 days in county jail, and credit for 143 days served.

Adding to the concern, Faux also faced charges in 2019 for assault with a deadly weapon and a misdemeanor assault in 2021. The fact that he was free and allegedly responsible for Ashanti’s death, after being reported missing for six days, has ignited outrage and calls for accountability.

    Community Demands Answers

Victim advocate Andy Kahan emphasized the community’s need for answers, stating, “There’s a lot of questions. Certainly, Ashanti deserves answers, the community deserves answers.” Ashanti’s mother revealed she was unaware of Faux’s violent history until her daughter went missing, expressing that if she had known, “he would have never been around my daughter.”

Ashanti Allen’s tragic death is part of a disturbing trend of Black women being killed by partners or known individuals. Recent high-profile cases, such as the deaths of Dr. Cerina Fairfax and Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer Bowen, underscore the urgent need for systemic change and greater protection for women.
