Hold onto your hats, R&B lovers! If you’ve been missing the soulful sounds of D’Angelo, get ready, because Questlove has just confirmed that a posthumous album is officially in the works. This is the news many fans have been eagerly awaiting since the iconic artist’s passing last month.
Questlove Drops Hints About New Music
Questlove spilled the beans during a red carpet interview at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. When asked about any unreleased material from D’Angelo, he didn’t hold back. He hinted that the music left behind is incredibly special and definitely on its way to fans.
He shared, ‘You’ll see soon. With him, it’s always the sound of yesterday but for the future. And this record is no different. So when it comes out, you’ll know.’ That one line alone is enough to confirm that something significant is coming our way!
A Testament to D’Angelo’s Creative Genius
D’Angelo was known for his meticulous approach to music, often taking years between album releases to ensure perfection. The fact that a full project exists and is set to carry on his signature forward-thinking, soul-bending style is already generating immense excitement and emotion among fans. It promises to be a true continuation of his unique artistry.
Collaborators Confirm D’Angelo Was Actively Creating
This isn’t the only hint we’ve had about D’Angelo’s creative output before his passing. Raphael Saadiq, another close collaborator, mentioned last year that D’Angelo was in a fantastic creative headspace. Speaking on the Rolling Stone Music Now podcast in September 2024, Saadiq revealed, ‘D’s in a good space right now… I called him and he was like, ‘I got this track — you gotta get on it!’’
Knowing that two of his closest musical confidants were actively working with him makes the prospect of a posthumous album even more meaningful. It suggests that fans will be receiving genuine, fully realized creations rather than unfinished demos. D’Angelo was truly building something special right up until his final days.
While an official release date hasn’t been announced, Questlove’s ‘you’ll see soon’ indicates that the wheels are already in motion for this highly anticipated project. Get ready to experience the magic of D’Angelo once again!
