  • Janet Jackson Skips Michael Jackson Biopic

The upcoming biopic ‘Michael,’ chronicling the life of the King of Pop, is generating a lot of buzz, especially with its star-studded cast of family members. However, one notable absence has fans talking: Janet Jackson. Despite her close bond with her brother Michael, Janet has chosen not to be a part of the film.

At the Los Angeles premiere of the film, which opened on April 24th, La Toya Jackson confirmed Janet’s decision. “She was asked and she kindly declined so you have to respect her wishes,” La Toya shared, expressing a wish that everyone could have been involved.

    Family Ties and Film Choices

The film stars Jermaine Jackson’s son, Jaafar Jackson, as Michael, tracing his journey from the Jackson 5 to global superstardom. While many family members are featured or involved, Janet’s decision to sit this one out is significant, given her own iconic status and deep connection to Michael.

Director Antoine Fuqua acknowledged Janet’s choice with understanding. “I have so much respect and love for Janet, but you know it’s OK. She’s supportive of Jaafar and that’s what matters,” he stated. It seems Janet’s support is focused on her nephew’s starring role.

    Other Family Members’ Involvement

The ‘Michael’ biopic has received significant backing from Michael Jackson’s estate and several other family members. His son Prince was involved during the production process, and another son, Bigi, even attended an earlier premiere event. This widespread family participation highlights the project’s importance to the Jackson legacy.

Interestingly, Michael’s daughter, Paris Jackson, also had no involvement, having reviewed an early script before stepping away. Her statement about having “0% involvement” suggests a deliberate distance from the project, mirroring Janet’s decision to decline participation.
