Adrian Peterson, a name synonymous with NFL greatness, is back in the headlines for a different reason. The former Minnesota Vikings star running back was arrested in Sugar Land, Texas, on the morning of October 26th. Police officials confirmed he faces charges for driving while intoxicated (DWI) and unlawful carrying of a weapon.
Details of the Arrest
According to reports, Peterson was taken into custody around 9:30 a.m. The investigation is active, and police have not yet released further details regarding the circumstances of the arrest. This isn’t the first time Peterson has faced legal issues this year.
Back in April, he was arrested in Minnesota on suspicion of drunken driving. At that time, police stated he was driving significantly over the speed limit and had a blood alcohol level of 0.14%, well above the legal limit. He also had a prior altercation at a Houston social club in May, which was reportedly set to lead to a celebrity boxing match.
A Storied NFL Career
Peterson’s NFL career was marked by incredible talent and numerous accolades. Drafted by the Vikings in 2007, he became one of the league’s most dominant running backs, holding the record for most rushing yards in a single game with an astounding 296 yards. He also amassed 14,918 career rushing yards throughout his time with various teams, including the Saints, Cardinals, Commanders, Lions, Titans, and Seahawks, before retiring in 2021.
Many anticipate his eventual induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2027. However, these recent legal troubles cast a shadow over his legacy as he faces these new charges.
