Well, it looks like Jay-Z’s surprise freestyle at the Roots Picnic has stirred up quite the reaction, and DJ Akademiks is leading the charge! Hov dropped some serious bars, taking aim at Drake, Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, Dame Dash, and Tory Lanez, and Ak definitely had thoughts.
Akademiks’ Twitter Rant
Almost immediately after Jay-Z’s performance on May 30th, DJ Akademiks took to Twitter, calling Hov “unhinged” and even joking about Alzheimer’s. He questioned why Jay-Z seemed so angry, stating, “nobody been mad at him. Calm down hov don’t catch a body!!!!!!” Ak seemed to suggest that Jay-Z was overreacting, especially regarding Drake’s song “Iceman.”
Ak pointed out that Jay-Z performed an acapella verse about “Iceman” in Philadelphia, questioning why he didn’t do it at his Yankee Stadium show. He also brought up Drake’s diss track “Janice STFU” and criticized Jay-Z for previously speaking out against rap battles, only to engage in one himself.
Targeting Nicki Minaj and More
Akademiks also weighed in on Jay-Z’s disses towards Nicki Minaj, expressing surprise that Hov would bring up other people’s children. He alluded to references about her husband, Kenneth Petty, and his status as a registered sex offender, and how that might affect his relationship with his kids. Ak claimed he even informed Tory Lanez about Jay-Z’s diss.
The commentator didn’t stop there. He also took shots at DJ Hed for praising Jay-Z’s set and even threw some shade at LeBron James for his recent NBA playoff exit, especially after LeBron had just shown love to Jay-Z on Instagram. It seems like Ak had a lot to get off his chest!
