  • HBCU Stars Shine Bright in the 2025 NFL Season

Get ready, football fans! The 2025 NFL season is gearing up to be a showcase of incredible talent, with a strong contingent of alumni from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) earning their spots on official 53-man rosters. It’s a testament to the dedication and skill these athletes bring to the game, proving that HBCU talent is absolutely essential on the professional stage.

More Than Just a Draft Pick

While only one HBCU player heard their name called in the 2025 NFL Draft, this year’s roster placements tell a much bigger story. It highlights the resilience and sheer determination of HBCU athletes who continue to excel and leave their mark across the league. From Jackson State to South Carolina State, and Florida A&M to Howard, these players are carrying the proud legacy of their institutions.

Protecting a Superstar: Carson Vinson’s Journey

A standout story this year is Carson Vinson, an offensive lineman from Alabama A&M. He was the sole HBCU player drafted in 2025, joining the Baltimore Ravens. Vinson’s opportunity to protect star quarterback Lamar Jackson is a powerful reminder that even when draft numbers might seem small, the quality of talent emerging from HBCUs is undeniable.

His journey underscores the deep well of talent nurtured within HBCU football programs. It’s a significant achievement not just for Vinson, but for all the players and coaches who have contributed to his development and the broader HBCU athletic community.
