Fans eagerly awaited Nika King’s return as Rue’s mom, Leslie, in the latest season of ‘Euphoria.’ King herself hyped up her comeback all week on social media. However, when the episode finally aired, viewers, including King, were surprised to find her scene reduced to a single line!
A Single Line After Years of Waiting
King, 47, took to Instagram to share her humorous reaction. She revealed that more dialogue was filmed for the scene, but it was ultimately cut, leaving her with just one line. “I just watched the episode that I’ve been promoting all week – and my mom over here is clowning me!” she said with a laugh, explaining her mother found it amusing that the internet waited so long for her to deliver just one line.
Her mom chimed in, emphasizing the wait: “Three years!” Though, as King pointed out, fans actually had to wait four years for Season 3, as her last appearance was in Season 2 back in 2022. King playfully told her off-screen mother, “You better be glad I have a sense of humor, you better be glad I’ve got thick skin.”
The Scene in Question
The episode, titled ‘Stand Still and See,’ featured Rue having a near-death experience after a close call with a truck. Seeking comfort in a church, she receives a call from Leslie (King). During their conversation, Rue expresses her search for redemption and how much she misses her mother. However, the camera primarily focused on Rue’s side of the call, only cutting to Leslie for her single line: ‘I love you.’
This drastic reduction in screen time has certainly raised eyebrows, especially given the show’s creator, Sam Levinson, has implemented significant changes since the series began. The shift in storylines, moving beyond the high school setting, has led to fewer appearances from many original characters.
