  • Mariah Carey to Receive MTV VMA Vanguard Award

Get ready for a star-studded celebration! Pop superstar Mariah Carey is set to receive the highly coveted Video Vanguard Award at the upcoming 2025 MTV Video Music Awards. This prestigious honor recognizes artists who have made a significant impact on music videos and popular culture throughout their careers.

A Career Defined by Artistic Influence

The announcement, made by MTV via Instagram, celebrates Carey’s decades-long career marked by artistic authenticity and groundbreaking contributions. Throughout her career, Carey has earned multiple VMA nominations, including nods for “Honey” (Remix) and “We Belong Together,” showcasing her enduring influence on the music video landscape.

This accolade comes as Carey gears up for the release of her new album, “Here For It All.” She recently gave fans a taste of the new project with the lead single, “Type Dangerous,” hinting at her continued evolution as an artist.

    More Than Just Awards

While Carey has achieved immense success, including 34 Grammy nominations and five wins, she has often expressed a more nuanced view on awards, once calling the Grammys “overrated.” For her, the true focus has always been on creating music that deeply resonates with listeners, rather than chasing accolades.

Her legacy is built on a foundation of freedom and self-expression, prioritizing artistry over conformity. This approach has cemented her status as a true icon who has consistently stayed true to her unique vision.

The 2025 MTV VMAs ceremony promises an emotional tribute to Carey’s career. The event will also honor other notable artists, including Busta Rhymes with the Rock the Bells Visionary Award and Ricky Martin with the Latin Icon Award. Tune in live on September 7th on CBS, simulcast on MTV, and stream on Paramount+ to witness this celebration of music’s biggest stars.

  • Boston Richey Acquitted on Gun Charges, Faces Retrial

Florida rapper Boston Richey has received some good news in his federal case, as a Tallahassee jury recently found him not guilty on two significant charges. However, the rapper’s legal journey isn’t over, with a retrial scheduled for September on a remaining charge.

    Jury Delivers Partial Acquittal

On Thursday, a jury cleared Boston Richey of charges related to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking. His co-defendant, Rayshun Foster, also known as Real Boston Glizzy, was similarly acquitted of these charges. This marks a significant victory for the artists.

Despite this positive outcome, both Richey and his co-defendants, De’Anthony Swatzie and Jerdy Miller Jr., still face one unresolved charge: conspiracy to distribute marijuana. This means the legal battle continues, with a retrial date set for September 29th.

Outstanding Warrant Keeps Richey in Custody

While Richey was initially expected to be released pending his retrial, an outstanding warrant from Texas has complicated matters. Authorities in Texas allege that Richey assaulted his former girlfriend, Tatiana Chanell, outside a Houston nightclub earlier this year. Due to this warrant, he will remain in custody until his upcoming trial.

Federal prosecutors had originally accused Richey of conspiring to distribute marijuana and possessing a variety of firearms, including several Glock pistols, a revolver, a rifle, and a shotgun. Richey has prior convictions for attempted robbery and burglary from 2014 and 2017, which were factored into the initial charges.
