It’s a story that spans decades in hip-hop and R&B history: Redman and Faith Evans, high school sweethearts. So, when Faith went on to marry the legendary Notorious B.I.G., how did Reggie Noble (Redman) really feel? He’s finally opening up about the mix of emotions he experienced.
From Sweethearts to Salutes
In a candid interview with Acton Entertainment, Redman confessed that he felt a pang of jealousy when Faith Evans began her relationship with Biggie. “When she started her relationship with Biggie, I was jealous,” he admitted with a laugh. He explained that Faith was not only his high school sweetheart but also his sister’s best friend, making their connection deeply personal.
Redman described Faith as “always been a sweetheart to me. She’s always been my heart.” He even recalled trying to bring her into the music scene when he connected with EPMD, wanting to help her shine. “She was and is still one of the best queens of R&B to me,” he stated, though he acknowledged that at the time, his own career was just taking off, and the focus wasn’t on R&B.
Wishing Them The Best
After they broke up and their careers began to soar independently, Redman found himself on tour while Faith was dating Biggie. Despite the initial jealousy, Redman expressed genuine happiness for the couple. “When she dating Biggie, I was like, you know, Faith has always been a smart person, […] so of course she’s gonna move with good discernment. I was happy for ’em. I was really, really happy for ’em,” he shared.
He continued to express pride in Faith’s success, especially after they had a child together. “Then they had a kid and I was just amazed at her outcome, like literally getting on, being successful, being part of one of the hottest rap crews at the time. I was, ‘Wow, she’s doing her thing.’” Ultimately, Redman’s feelings evolved into support. “So only thing I can do was salute her, pray for her and wish her the best.”
A Shared History
Faith Evans herself confirmed their high school romance during a 2018 episode of Drink Champs, adding another layer to this intertwined musical history. It’s a testament to their enduring respect for each other, even as their paths diverged into legendary careers.
