Big news in the hip-hop world! C.J. Wallace, the son of the legendary Notorious B.I.G. and singer Faith Evans, has officially won a defamation case against his former collaborator, Jonathan Hay. This victory comes after months of legal back-and-forth concerning some truly shocking allegations involving Sean “Diddy” Combs.
A Default Judgment in Wallace’s Favor
Court documents reveal that a default motion was entered for Wallace on May 6th. Why? Because Hay failed to respond to the lawsuit filed by Wallace last year. Wallace had sued Hay over comments made during various interviews, where Hay accused Wallace of participating in or witnessing alleged criminal conduct linked to Diddy. The accusations were incredibly serious, including claims of sexual relations with Diddy and facilitating a sexual assault.
Wallace vehemently denied these claims, stating they were defamatory and damaging to his reputation. It wasn’t an easy legal process; court filings show Wallace attempted to serve Hay at multiple Florida addresses 17 times before resorting to substitute service. Hay’s refusal to formally answer the lawsuit ultimately paved the way for this default ruling in Wallace’s favor.
From Collaboration to Conflict
Wallace and Hay initially collaborated on the 2020 single “Ready to Dance,” which was part of a planned remix project celebrating Biggie’s music. However, the partnership soured, and additional songs were ultimately shelved. Wallace cited “creative differences,” a lack of commercial interest, and Hay’s alleged “erratic behavior” as reasons for the project’s demise.
Following the project’s collapse, Wallace claimed that Hay’s public accusations were part of a “calculated smear campaign.” This legal battle highlights the intense fallout that can occur when professional relationships deteriorate, especially when serious accusations are involved.
It’s worth noting that Hay’s separate sexual assault lawsuit against both Wallace and Diddy is still ongoing in Los Angeles Superior Court. This defamation case, however, marks a significant legal win for C.J. Wallace, clearing his name from the damaging allegations.
