  • Sean Paul Matches Hurricane Relief Donations

In the wake of the devastating Hurricane Melissa, Grammy-winning dancehall artist Sean Paul is stepping up to support his native Jamaica. He’s launched a campaign to match donations up to $50,000, aiming to provide much-needed relief to those affected by the catastrophic storm.

    A Call for Global Support

Sean Paul took to Instagram on October 30 to announce his initiative. “Right now, my island of Jamaica is going through a really tough time,” he shared in a video. “Hurricane Melissa has caused serious damage, and many of our brothers and sisters are struggling — families displaced, homes destroyed, and communities in need of help.”

Through the Sean Paul Foundation, the artist has partnered with Food For The Poor Jamaica to ensure that aid reaches those most impacted. He’s urging his global fanbase, friends, and supporters to contribute whatever they can, emphasizing that every donation makes a difference. “Together, we can make a big difference. And to show how much this means to me, I’ll be matching every dollar raised, up to fifty thousand dollars,” he stated.

    Hurricane Melissa’s Devastation

Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Jamaica on October 28 as a powerful Category 5 storm, with wind speeds reaching an astonishing 185 mph. The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) had issued warnings of potentially “catastrophic” impacts, with some experts calling it “the storm of the century.” The storm left an estimated 140,000 people without power and caused widespread destruction across the island.

Tragically, the hurricane resulted in numerous fatalities across the Caribbean, with at least 30 deaths reported after its destructive path through Jamaica, Cuba, and the Bahamas. The full extent of the damage is still being assessed and may take weeks to fully comprehend. Sean Paul’s initiative aims to provide immediate relief and support the long road to recovery for the affected families.
