  • Pizza Hut May Get New Owners Amid U.S. Struggles

Remember those classic Pizza Hut red roofs? Well, it looks like the iconic pizza chain might be getting a new landlord. Yum Brands, the parent company, has announced they’re looking into all sorts of options for Pizza Hut, and that could mean selling it off entirely. It’s a big move for a brand that’s been a household name for decades!

Why the Big Change for Pizza Hut?

Yum Brands CEO Chris Turner hinted that the brand has been facing some serious headwinds. While the Pizza Hut team has been working hard, the numbers just aren’t adding up in the U.S. market. Turner mentioned that a sale might be the best way for Pizza Hut to reach its full potential, suggesting it could thrive better outside of Yum Brands’ current structure.

Globally, Pizza Hut is still doing pretty well, with over 20,000 locations worldwide and a 2 percent sales increase internationally this year. China, in particular, remains a strong market. However, the story is quite different here at home.

    U.S. Sales Take a Hit

In the United States, where nearly half of Pizza Hut’s earnings come from, sales have seen a significant drop. For the first three quarters of 2025, U.S. sales fell by a concerning 7 percent. This decline is partly attributed to the brand’s traditional dine-in model struggling to keep up in today’s fast-paced, delivery-focused world.

Adding to the challenges, a major franchisee’s bankruptcy back in 2020 resulted in the closure of around 300 stores, which certainly didn’t help matters. Industry data shows that Pizza Hut’s market share has slipped from 19.4 percent in 2019 down to 15.5 percent.

Yum Brands Focuses on Growth Elsewhere

While Pizza Hut navigates these changes, Yum Brands is experiencing robust growth with its other popular chains, KFC and Taco Bell. These brands are consistently fueling strong quarterly results, contributing to an overall revenue increase of 8 percent for the parent company. It seems Yum Brands is prioritizing its more successful ventures while exploring the best path forward for Pizza Hut.

Yum Brands hasn’t set a timeline for this strategic review and has stated they won’t be commenting further while the process unfolds. It’s definitely a situation to keep an eye on as we wait to see who might be the next to lead the Pizza Hut legacy.
