Black Woman Killed by Boyfriend Amid Abuse History

A devastating incident has left the community mourning the loss of 23-year-old Stasy Charles, a Black woman who was fatally stabbed by her boyfriend, Steven Heinrich Jr., on November 13th. The attack was followed by a violent car crash, which authorities believe was intentionally caused by Heinrich, leading to his own death.

A Violent Encounter and Tragic Aftermath

Baton Rouge Police were called to a scene on Old Hammond Highway around 2:13 a.m. after reports of a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers discovered Charles in a parking lot with multiple severe stab wounds. Despite being rushed to a hospital, she tragically died during surgery. Detectives later connected this horrific act to a car crash that occurred nearby shortly after.

Preliminary investigations suggest that Heinrich, 28, went to Charles’s residence, rammed her car with his own, dragged her out, and repeatedly stabbed her. He then fled the scene and intentionally drove into oncoming traffic, resulting in a head-on collision. Heinrich reportedly set himself on fire inside his vehicle after the crash and later died from his injuries at a local hospital.

A Pattern of Abuse and Protective Orders

Disturbingly, court documents reveal a history of abuse in the relationship between Charles and Heinrich. Just days before the fatal attack, on November 5th, Charles had contacted police regarding a battery incident involving Heinrich. He was arrested for battery of a dating partner and released on a $2,500 bond within 24 hours, at which point a protective order was served.

Further investigation uncovered that Heinrich had six additional protective orders filed against him by women in other states. Records indicate Charles had made multiple attempts to seek protection, detailing instances where Heinrich had allegedly punched, shoved, and threatened her. While she focused on his obsessive harassment and stalking in one protective order request, she had also reported being physically beaten by him, resulting in documented injuries.

Social Media Reactions and Friend’s Tribute

The tragic news has prompted widespread reactions on social media, with many expressing condolences to Charles’s family and friends. Her friend, Maci Duplessis, shared painful reflections on her loss, describing Charles as a “happy and bubbly person” with a “beautiful soul” and a smile that could always brighten someone’s day.

Amidst the grief, some social media users resurfaced old posts from 2018, believed to be from Charles’s account, where she appeared to express preferences for dating white men and questioned potential issues with such relationships. Regardless of the context or intent of these past posts, the focus remains on the devastating loss of a young life due to domestic violence.

This tragedy highlights the critical issue of domestic violence. If you or someone you know is experiencing abuse, please reach out for help. Share your thoughts on this story and the importance of addressing domestic violence in the comments below.
