Masika Kalysha Mourns Husband’s Tragic Death

It’s with a heavy heart that we share the news of a profound loss for “Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood” star Masika Kalysha. Her husband, Jamar Champ, the father of her youngest child, has tragically passed away. The news was confirmed by Kalysha herself, who shared a heartfelt statement as her family navigates this devastating time.

Confirming the Tragic News

Masika Kalysha confirmed the passing of Jamar Champ, whom she married in 2021. Reports indicate that Champ, 38, died in a car accident in Houston on October 28. In a statement released to The Shade Room, Kalysha expressed her deep sorrow.

It is with profound sadness that I confirm the news of the tragic and unexpected passing of my spouse and father/stepfather of my beautiful daughters, Jamar Champ. During this incredibly challenging time, I kindly ask for respect and understanding as our family comes together to support one another and honor his memory. — Masika Kalysha

She added, “Your thoughts, prayers, and love mean the world to us as we navigate this devastating loss.” Kalysha emphasized the need for privacy and respect for her family as they grieve.

A Plea for Privacy and a Mother’s Pain

Hours before releasing her official statement, Kalysha took to Instagram with a video plea. She asked blogs to refrain from reporting details about Champ’s death until she could share the news herself, prioritizing the protection of her children. She shares two daughters, one of whom is with Champ.

On Wednesday, she posted a touching video of herself and Champ, expressing the immense pain and anger she feels towards the driver responsible for the accident. “I’m so mad at the driver that took your life,” she wrote. “I’ve never felt this much anger and pain and confusion all at once. All you wanted was your baby and to be a Godly family man.”

Details of the Fatal Crash

Houston police reported that the fatal crash occurred around midnight on a local freeway. Jamar Champ was reportedly driving a silver Tesla Cybertruck when it was struck head-on by a silver BMW traveling the wrong way. The impact caused the BMW to catch fire, and the Tesla then collided with a Freightliner 18-wheeler.

The driver of the BMW was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Tesla, identified by family and friends as Jamar Champ, was taken to the hospital in critical condition but later passed away. The driver of the 18-wheeler was thankfully unharmed.

A Relationship’s Journey

While Kalysha confirmed the news as her “spouse,” reports from PEOPLE indicate that the couple had announced their separation in 2023. In 2024, Kalysha mentioned they were going through mediation, referring to Champ as her “soon-to-be-ex-husband.” Despite their separation, the pain of his sudden death is evident.

Earlier on the morning of the accident, Kalysha had posted on X (formerly Twitter), asking for prayers. “God woke me up at 2:00am… I couldn’t sleep. I didn’t know why. Jesus Christ I just received the worse news of my life. Pray for me and my kids please,” she wrote, foreshadowing the devastating news to come.
