Talk about a crossover event! Rapper Nicki Minaj recently made a surprise appearance at Elon Musk’s Starbase facility in Boca Chica, Texas. She was there to witness a highly anticipated SpaceX Starship launch attempt, becoming the latest celebrity to visit the cutting-edge spaceport.
A Historic Welcome from Elon Musk
The rap superstar turned heads when she appeared live on the SpaceX webcast on Thursday, May 21, 2026. Elon Musk himself extended a public welcome via X (formerly Twitter), posting, “Welcome to Starbase, @NICKIMINAJ!” The tweet quickly went viral, highlighting the unexpected pairing.
Nicki Minaj’s ‘Starships’ Connection
Minaj, known for her 2012 hit song ‘Starships,’ was spotted on the observation deck sporting a SpaceX Starship t-shirt. When asked about the song’s title seemingly predicting her visit, she humorously replied, “I do not know.” It was a fun nod to her iconic track.
As the launch window for Starship V3 Flight 12 opened, Minaj was handed a microphone and delivered a powerful message to the SpaceX crew. “This is historic. This is a major moment, y’all,” she declared, adding a special shoutout to Musk: “Major shoutout to Elon. Thank you for everything you’re doing for humanity.”
Launch Delayed, But the Excitement Remains
Unfortunately, just six minutes before liftoff, technical issues caused the countdown to halt. A SpaceX communications representative explained that the team is continuously learning from these first-time system executions and would troubleshoot the issues for a new attempt the following day.
While Minaj’s presence added star power to the event, the scrub meant she didn’t get to witness the full launch on this visit. Whether she’ll return for the next attempt remains to be seen, but her first trip to Starbase has already made headlines.
Other Notable Visitors to Starbase
Minaj isn’t the only famous face to grace Starbase. The facility has become a destination for high-profile individuals. Former President Donald Trump attended the sixth Starship test flight in November 2024, receiving a personal tour from Musk. Professional golfer Bryson DeChambeau was also present at that launch, expressing his deep desire to experience space travel.
Senator Ted Cruz has also made multiple visits, engaging with SpaceX leadership on the company’s missions and the future of commercial spaceflight. These visits underscore Starbase’s growing significance not just in aerospace, but also as a point of interest for global influencers.
