Nick Cannon’s Parenting Double Standard Sparks Debate

Ever feel like parenting rules are a little… uneven? Well, Nick Cannon is stirring the pot again with his latest take on raising his kids, and it’s definitely got people talking. He recently shared his thoughts on dating for his 15-year-old twins, Morrocan and Monroe, and the rules are surprisingly different for each.

A Tale of Two Twins: Dating Rules Revealed

During an appearance on the TMZ Podcast, Cannon revealed that his son, Morrocan, is free to explore dating and relationships. However, his twin sister, Monroe, isn’t afforded the same freedom. Cannon explained that he’s much more protective of his daughter, citing a need to shield her from certain individuals and situations.

He stated, “There is a difference when parenting a son and then when parenting a daughter. I am more protective of my daughter because there [are] things out there that I have to protect my daughter from.” This stance has certainly raised eyebrows, especially given Cannon’s own extensive family life.

The Double Standard Debate

Many are quick to point out the apparent double standard. While Cannon acknowledges this, he defends his position by emphasizing the unique challenges daughters might face. He mentioned a specific agreement with Monroe: she can go on dates if she can explain her plans and the potential outcomes to him.

He elaborated, “Your twin brother can go with you. That’s what I do. But you ain’t going one-on-one with no little bastard anywhere.” He also stressed the importance of open conversations, hoping Monroe feels comfortable sharing everything with him, even if he’s apprehensive.

Is Protection Enough?

While Cannon’s desire to protect his daughter is understandable, critics argue that sons also require guidance and protection, not just permission to date. The focus seems to be solely on preparing Monroe for potential romantic pitfalls, potentially overlooking the developmental needs of his son.
