In what has become a poignant final interview, wrestling legend Hulk Hogan has opened up about the immense physical pain and heavy medication he endured, particularly during his time with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. The revelations come from the Netflix docuseries ‘Hulk Hogan: Real American,’ released posthumously after the icon’s passing in July 2025 at the age of 71.
Hogan detailed the staggering amount of fentanyl he was prescribed, painting a grim picture of his struggles. “I was taking 80-milligram fentanyls, two in the morning, stuffing them under my gums here,” he revealed. “I had two 300 mg patches of fentanyl on my legs, and they gave me six 1,500 mg fentanyl lollipops to eat.”
A Pharmacist’s Shocking Reaction
The sheer volume of medication was so extreme that it alarmed a pharmacist. Hogan recounted a visit to the pharmacy where the pharmacist expressed disbelief at his prescription regimen. “I went to the pharmacy, he goes, ‘You should be dead. We have never seen a human being take this much fentanyl,’” Hogan recalled.
This difficult period in Hogan’s life, as detailed in the docuseries, followed his divorce from Linda Hogan. The split left him feeling vulnerable while he attempted to continue his demanding wrestling career despite ongoing health issues.
The Toll of Pain and Pills
Former wrestling executive Eric Bischoff also commented on Hogan’s struggles during that time, noting the immense pressure he was under. “Your wife’s divorcing you, your doctors are giving you fistfuls of pills that would kill a horse,” Bischoff stated.
Hogan described the severity of his pain, explaining that he “had to sleep in a chair” because even minor movements caused excruciating discomfort. His death was attributed to a cardiac event at his home in Clearwater, Florida. Medical records indicated prior diagnoses of atrial fibrillation and chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
Hulk Hogan’s story is a stark reminder of the devastating impact of chronic pain and prescription drug abuse. What are your thoughts on his revelations? Share your reflections in the comments below.
