Jason Lee, the founder of Hollywood Unlocked, is known for his direct approach to entertainment news, but he’s recently found himself in a legal crossfire. He took to social media to discuss a cease and desist letter he received from a professional athlete, hinting that the situation might stem from a personal rejection.
A Legal Notice and a Personal History
Lee expressed his surprise and frustration, noting that in his 11 years of running Hollywood Unlocked, he’s never received a cease and desist from someone he personally knows. The letter reportedly aims to prevent stories about the athlete’s family life, information Lee claims is already public knowledge. He questioned why the athlete, who has his personal number, would resort to legal threats through his team instead of direct communication.
Reflecting on his current commitment to positivity and personal growth, Lee admitted he was tempted to respond with more aggressive tactics. He jokingly credited comedian Kevin Hart for making him “softer,” but emphasized that his grace has limits. “I won’t do is let somebody play in my face and think that that grace that I gave is grace that is given forever,” Lee stated.
Hinting at a Rejected Invitation
The most intriguing part of Lee’s response came when he shared the message he had his attorney, Walter, send back. Lee suggested the legal action might be motivated by a bruised ego after he declined an invitation to spend the night at the athlete’s house, stating the athlete “wasn’t my type.” He humorously questioned if this rejection was the cause of the legal reaction, calling the athlete a “punk.”
Despite the underlying tension, Lee maintained a relatively restrained public response, attributing it to his current focus on positivity and leading by example. However, he issued a clear warning: if another legal notice is sent his way, he will not hesitate to expose the individual’s identity and details.
Lee concluded his address by stating his intention not to “out people” but made it clear that further legal provocation would have significant consequences. He ended with a call to walk with God, but not without a final, firm warning.
