Women’s History Month is a fantastic time to shine a spotlight on the incredible achievements of Black women, especially in the vibrant world of beauty. From skincare to makeup and haircare, Black women-owned brands are not only innovating but also making a significant impact on representation. These brands have earned their place in our routines, and we think they deserve yours too!
The Challenge of Funding and the Power of Support
It’s a tough reality that businesses owned by women, and particularly Black women, face significant hurdles when it comes to securing venture capital. Studies show that only a tiny fraction of funding goes to women-owned businesses, and an even smaller percentage to Black women-owned businesses. This disparity, however, doesn’t reflect the quality or potential of these brands.
In today’s economy, many consumers are consciously choosing to support brands that align with their values. This makes it even more important to highlight and champion the businesses that are often overlooked. Thankfully, the ESSENCE team is dedicated to celebrating these brands year-round, with extra enthusiasm during February and March.
