Jay-Z on Buzbee Lawsuit: “Uncontrollable Anger”

Jay-Z is opening up about the deep emotional scars left by a recent civil lawsuit that accused him of rape. In a candid conversation with GQ, the music mogul revealed the “heartbreak” and “uncontrollable anger” he experienced due to the allegations and the legal battle that followed, spearheaded by attorney Tony Buzbee.

The lawsuit, filed last year, made serious accusations against Jay-Z. Despite the allegations quickly being labeled as baseless by many, the mere accusation took a significant toll. The accuser eventually withdrew the suit in February 2025. Jay-Z’s subsequent attempt to sue Buzbee and the accuser for defamation was ultimately dismissed by a judge, but the experience has clearly left a lasting impact.

The Emotional Toll of False Allegations

Speaking with Frazier Tharpe of GQ, Jay-Z didn’t hold back about the personal cost. “That whole [lawsuit thing], that shit took a lot out of me. I was angry. I haven’t been that angry in a long time, uncontrollable anger,” he admitted. He expressed disbelief at the callousness with which such heavy allegations can be made.

Jay-Z emphasized the gravity of such accusations, particularly referencing street codes he holds dear. “You don’t put that on someone—that’s a thing that you better be super sure… We lived and died by that. So it’s strict for me, like it meant a lot to me,” he explained, highlighting a personal code of conduct that values certainty and respect when dealing with serious accusations.

A Rare Glimpse into Jay-Z’s Vulnerability

It’s rare to get such unfiltered insights from the legendary artist, making this interview particularly significant. The fact that people still cling to the initial allegations, despite the lawsuit being dropped, adds another layer to the “heartbreak” Jay-Z described. His willingness to speak so candidly about the emotional fallout offers a powerful look at the personal impact of such public legal battles.
